Basic BATIK PAINTING WORKSHOP

Batik is an ancient art that has been practiced for many decades in Southeast Asia. The dyeing process creates beautiful designs that are unique to the region they come from or tell a story. Painting designs are done using a canting, a pen-like instrument that draws the hot wax onto the fabric.

The kids will learn how to use the batik dyes to “paint” the batik visuals. As the dyes are very different from the regular art mediums, the kids will learn how to manage the dyes and how to add gradient to their visuals.

(*Due to the children young age or time constraint, the batik pieces are pre-wax for them to learn how to use the dyes.)

LEARNING OUTCOME

– Learn what is batik painting about and its ancient art history from where its origin.
– Learn how to use the dyes to paint their pictures as the handling of the art mediums are different.
– Learn how to use the different batik dye colours to gradient effect.
